SIZE DOES COUNT !
This is probably the most comprehensive collection of Neurology questions and answers in existance today. A massive 4933 item collection that covers a significant percentage of all the questions that can possibly be asked in a neurology written test. If you start out today, and work on thirty questions a day, you would finish all 4933 questions in around 6 months. Or if you have more spare time than most of us, you can work on 100 questions a day, and finish them all in less than 2 months.
SWITCHES YOUR BRAIN INTO LEARNING MODE
We have all been there. During ward rounds the chairman asks you "What type of channel defect do you see in Myotonia congenita?" Well, you stood there in agonized silence before stating in a small voice "I don't know". We all know what happened next. You looked it up in Adams and Victor as soon as rounds was over. And you haven't forgotten the answer to this day, notwithstanding the fact that you have never ever seen a live patient with myotonia congenita. Step back for a minute and think about what just happened when you stood there and listened to that question and did not have an answer. Somehow, that moment when your brain registered a question without an answer, your brain switched into (for want of a better term) learning mode, so to speak. This is the principle we use in the Neurology Boards 1.0 software.
It is a well known fact that learning occurs best when the process involves posing a question first, without providing the answer simultaneously. This is the principle utilized by the Neurology Boards 1.0 software system. Once you pick the category, the program presents one question to you at a time, at your own pace. Once you think of possible answers, you click the answer button and it gives you the answer. After you have been through all 4900 (that is right, four thousand nine hundred questions) you can recheck how much information you have retained by clicking through the questions again.
Neurology Boards 1.0 does not use multiple choice questions; these do not have any teaching value- their value is limited to testing.
THE PERSON MOST QUALIFIED TO CREATE EXAM PREPARATORY MATERIAL IS SOMEONE WHO IS PREPARING FOR ONE
I compiled this monster list of questions by way of preparing for my written boards (in part during my chief residency at the University of Kentucky Neurology Residency Program and in part while running a busy neurology practice in Grand Island Nebraska). After successfully passing my written boards (not many authors can claim that they test ran their book or software for their own board exams) I decided to convert what was originally a 4933 monster list of questions and answers into a more nimble and faster and easier to handle software. I created Neurology Boards 1.0 entirely on the Visual Basic 6.0 programming platform.
Most physicians preparing for their boards have to do that while trying to survive their first year of practise. A very difficult time, to say the least. A time when money is hard and time is short. Install Neurology Boards 1.0 on your office PC. Go through a few questions between patients. Use that time you would otherwise use surfing the web! If you can answer all 4933 of these questions, it would be safe to say that it would be very difficult for you to not pass the written boards!
WHO IS THIS SOFTWARE MEANT FOR?
This is primarily designed for Neurology and Psychiatry residents and physicians preparing to take the neurology boards, but will also be useful for anyone who is planning to take any exam that includes neurology questions.
TOPICS COVERED
Almost everything you need for the American Board of Neurology written exam is covered. The sections include Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Adult clinical neurology, Pediatric Neurology, Psychiatry, Genetics, Embryology, Epidemiology and Radiology are covered. Special attention has been paid to psychiatry, since this often proves to be a stumbling block for neurology residents who after a four year residency that does not include even a week on the Psychiatry floor are expected to answer hundreds of Psychiatry questions in the written part of the boards!
PASS THE BOARDS
This software was created with one objective in mind- to make sure that the user passes the written part of the Neurology Boards administered by the American Board of Neurology. If you can answer all 4933 of these questions, it would be safe to say that it would be very difficult for you to not pass the written boards!
